BBT Charting and Fertility Planning Software

The basal body temperature (BBT) is the temperature of the body at rest. During the follicular phase (preovulatory), a low body temperature is observed. During the luteal phase (post-ovulatory), a sustained rise in temperature of at least 0.4° F for three consecutive days will confirm that ovulation has occurred.

Keeping track of your BBT is used to confirm that ovulation has occurred, not to predict when ovulation will occur, and is therefore not used to plan timed intercourse to achieve pregnancy. Other tests, such as LH and cervical mucus, are more useful for timed intercourse since they more accurately predict ovulation.

The BBT can be useful to indicate a lack of ovulation and also for patients undergoing PCOS treatment with Metformin, the insulin lowering medication. The results of the BBT help the team at GRS develop an effective, individualized treatment plan. A sustained rise in temperature beyond the expected date of the next menses, or longer than 16 days, usually indicates pregnancy.

One way to predict ovulation and increase your chances of conceiving a child is to chart your fertility signs with the use of TCOYF Fertility Software. TCOYF allows you to input data that has an affect on your fertility, including basal body temperature, cervical fluid, vaginal sensation, menstruation, spotting, intercourse and use of medications. Based on the information you enter, the program predicts when you are fertile and infertile, estimates the day of ovulation in each cycle and informs you when you might be pregnant. The program even gives you the option to post your fertility charts directly to the TCOYF Web site or print them so you can share information with your friends, family, healthcare provider and other women who are trying to conceive.

TCOYF Fertility Software is based on the best selling book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, MPH. The software was developed in conjunction with Toni and is the only fertility software application endorsed as a companion to the book.
