I had my tubes tied. Five years later I had them untied them and have
tried for a baby 4 yrs.
I take ovulating tests but never see 2 pink lines? How many days should I
test? I want to know why I cant pin point when I ovulate with a kit? I
never see the 2 lines? I do every thing right but never a Surge.

Answer:
The lack of a positive indication on the urine LH test stick usually
indicates that you have not ovulated. When to begin testing is based on the
length of your menstrual cycles. Subtract about 16 days from the average
cycle length and start on that day. So if you have 28 day menstrual cycles,
begin testing on cycle day 12. (The first day of heavy flow should be
counted as day 1) The kits are accurate about 85% of the time. Rarely,
non-specific immune abnormalities can cause false positive or false
negative results. Make certain the tests kits are not outdated. I advise my
patients to empty their bladder first thing in the morning and then test
with the second urine specimen of the day. This can be done 20-30 minutes
later and should be done before drinking anything if possible. One clue
that you are really ovulating is the basal body temperature chart and
change in cervical mucus that occurs with ovulation. The more information
you use to monitor your cycle, the better you will be able to take charge
of your fertility. In fact, I recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your
Fertility" by Toni Wechsler, PhD. to learn more about monitoring your cycles.
