CLOMIPHENE PROTOCOL
For Ovarian Reserve Testing


If either you or your physician suspect you might be pregnant, do not take clomiphene as there may be a possibility of increased risk of congenital defects. IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE PREGNANT, DO NOT TAKE CLOMIPHENE. NOTIFY YOUR PHYSICIAN!

Clomiphene Citrate Challenge Test (CCCT)

Instructions

 

    1. On cycle day 2, 3 or 4, come into office and have labs drawn (E2 and FSH). An additional test, Inhibin-B, may also be ordered. This would be determined by your physician. An appointment must be made for lab work.

       

    2. Beginning on cycle day 5 and continuing through cycle day 9, take 100 mg (two 50 mg tablets) of clomiphene citrate (Clomid) once a day every day at the same time.

       

    3. On cycle day 10 or 11, return to the office to have labs drawn again (FSH). Additional tests, E2 or LH, may also be ordered by your physician. An appointment must be made for lab work.

Expected Values

CD (cycle day) 3 E2 value 65-70 FSH value below 10
CD (cycle day) 10 or 11 LH value below 10 FSH value below 10

Women with elevated FSH levels may demonstrate diminished ovarian reserve. If these tests are abnormal, you will be asked to schedule a brief consult visit to discuss additional diagnostic studies or treatment options.
